It has been a while since I shared some thoughts and news about Spirit of House with you... so here we go:
- WMC 2012: Not entirely sure yet but at the moment it looks like I will not attend the Winter Music Conference as I'm not convinced their new concept will work...
- Direction of "Spirit of House": Even more than in the past I will continue to keep the focus on soulful vocal house, and I will also try to include more classics from back in the day to bring those good old memories back...
- (Reminder) Use of my reviews: I wanted to remind everyone that I'm fine if you use my reviews (e.g. for quotes, mail outs, promotional texts) as long as a reference such as "Written by Mike Fossati for Spirit of House (www.spiritofhouse.com)" is added.

Remember the first ever release on GoGo Music back in November 2001? It was "The way love goes" by Dara Band with vocals by Michael Procter, now that ten years have passed it is time to celebrate and look back at the labels truly impressive, one-of-a-kind catalogue with the four compilations "Soul for the Floors" which contains a selection of the labels memorable vocals anthems, "Dubs for the Clubs" which contains tracks that set the floors on fire, "Tracks for the Heads" which showcases the deeper side of the label and "Visions of Musicians" which offers nothing but eclectic productions and unrivaledmusicality. Many of the songs included in these compilations have gotten our "Pick of the Week" or "Spotlight" awards in the past years, they are simply too many to mention... What we had said for many of the labels releases in the past is valid here as well: a timeless and essential release, one that is not to be missed. The first two volumes are available at your favorite digital music store now, the other two will follow in the coming weeks.

"House Music Movie" (working title) is a feature length independent documentary film about house music, dance and global pop culture. DJ's, producers, remixers, dancers and fans discuss their careers and celebrity in this behind-the-scenes look at the house music industry. Along with footage of house music in action, the film also captures candid conversations about house (also called electronic dance music) with authors, artists, club owners and cultural experts.
|
Visual artist, culture documentarian and independent filmmaker Muema has been working on this documentary about house music for the last four years. The film was shot on location in New York City, Ibiza, London, Germany, Holland, Miami and Los Angeles. To date, Muema has interviewed legendary DJ's such as Tony Humphries, David Morales, Paul Trouble Anderson, Louie Vega and David Harness; legendary singers such as Barbara Tucker and Joi Cardwell; and many more.
Now he is in the post-production stage and he's really excited to bring this dream to fruition. He's not doing it alone. Deeply committed to this project, four members of the team (director, editor, co-producer and music supervisor) have been contributing their time over the last two years to make this film happen. Having already wrapped shooting, he is now at a critical moment in post-production and editing. A fund raising campaign has been launched to enable the team to acquire archival footage in order to finish the film with a target release of late 2012.
To support completion of the movie, please visit the crowdfunding campaign @ RocketHub and donate to the project. An interview with Muema can be found here. |
