Nick Curly - Piano in the Dark EP

The "Piano in the Dark EP"  is the second remix release from Nick Curly's highly acclaimed debut album "Between the Lines" released in late 2012 on Defected Records. The EP features two stand out tracks from the album, both included in the original version and a 'Yoruba Soul' remix by legendary DJ/producer Osunlade. First up is the melancholic "Piano in the dark", a beautiful deep laidback track featuring emotive vocals by Worthy Davis alongside sublime piano. Osunlade adds his signature soulful truly melodious touch, with smooth percussive rhythms leading the way for the vocals, lovely guitars and grand keys. Next is the inebriant Detroit-esque "Wrong hands" which uses spell binding rhythms as playground for mesmerizing synth melodies, taken to the next level by Osunlade whose rework built around remorselessly thumpin rhythms, haunting melodies and cool vocal snippets intensifies the vibe to the max.

Shisanyama Sessions Vol. 1 Sampler

"Shisa nyama" is a term used in many South African townships to describe an informal barbecue or braai where friends come together near a butchery, to grill meat in an open fire (source: Wikipedia). Some of these places combine this tradition with their very specific kind of deep & soulful house - this backdrop gave inspiration to UPZ to put together a "Shisanyama" influenced compilation. This four track samples gives us a preview of what is to come on the album, featuring tracks from Raisal Sounds featuring Zandi, UPZ & Black Motion featuring Theo Lawson, Avi Elman & Danny J featuring Lifford and C9ine. As you would expect, this is soulful African House at its best, guaranteed to send shivers down your spine... We can't wait to get our hands on the full album...
