Michelle McCain - All I can do You might remember this one from our previous reviews, but its so good it deserves the "Pick of the Week" once more... "All I can do" is the first single of Michele McCain's full length album "Marivent Soul" released by Grooveland Music, involving Gene Leone and Benjamin Kristof Rakun who also are behind this wonderful song. Michele McCain impresses with a fabulous vocal performance, with the Brazilian Soul Crew giving the song an uplifting feel good vibe on their mixes featuring jazzy piano and phat synth chords over a percussion driven backing. Andy Ward's vocal version is an irresistibly thumpin' affair fueled with enchanting keys and chords, with his dub powering up the vibe for ruthless peak time action. Gene Leone combines Michele McCain's inimitable vocals with an organic and soulful yet funky percussive backing and amazing keys, with the result being simply outstanding. Last but not least, John Mateo takes the song to deepest grounds, combining  the vocals with jazzy keys and luscious chords, all perfectly arranged over a relentlessly thumpin' backing. D.nel - Mysteries of the soil In July of this year, Roots Go Deep Music debuted with the highly acclaimed "The Rough Materials - Volume One" EP, now the label presents their second release courtesy of D.nel aka Nelson Mbomani. "Mysteries of the soil" (this is D.nel's first original production by the way) takes you on a mesmerizing journey to deepest imaginable grounds with spell binding percussive rhythms and exhilarating melodies - true South African underground house, as raw and pristine as it gets. Label heads Fred Buddah (under his Yao Kuwane moniker) and Ofuren each contribute their own distinctive interpretation: Fred Buddha keeps the vibe deep and hypnotic contemporaneously giving the track a celestial dreamy touch, while Ofuren slows things down on his mind-blowing percussive mid-tempo excursion laced with luscious keys. Another ingenious release from this up and rising label not to be missed by any lover of pure underground house music...

From the Vault: Jamiroquai "Emergency on planet earth" (Masters at Work Remixes)(Sony Soho Square 12" Promo, 1994)

Details
Written by: Mike Fossati

Jamiroquai - Emergency on planet earth (MAW Remixes) There was a time when vinyl was ruling the world and DJ's would carry literally hundreds of records to a gig. This was also the time when 'promos' were only made available to DJ's (and those who were connected to the right people); of course there was kind of a 'black market' for fans and record collectors to buy them for good money. Looking back, one of the most memorable and rare promos we managed to get our hands on dates back to 1994 when Sony UK released a very limited promo 12" (said to have had 200 copies pressed only) of Master at Work remixes of Jamiroquai's "Emergency on planet earth" which instantly became highly sought after - certainly no surprise as we talk about Masters at Work on their best with these Nu-Yorican infused interpretations of an already great song... To this day, this is a hard to find gem and fans and collectors are willing to pay quite lots of money for a copy since some of the included mixes are not available elsewhere.
