Sandy Barber

Back in 1977, Sandy Barber had her first release with the long player "The best is yet to come" released through Olde World Records (the album has since became a Northern Soul classic), soon to be re-released by BBE Records in a deluxe edition. While you might not be familiar with this classic album release by Sandy Barber, she had quite some success in the 1990's as Sandy B with such gems as "Feels like singin'" (Nervous Records) or "Make the world go round" (Champion Records) which are nowadays considered a house music classic. Preceding the re-release of her album is this single release featuring "I think I'll doe some stepping on my own" and "Don't you worry baby" in the original versions as well as in paramount remixes by the legendary John Morales and Million Dollar Disco hero Al Kent. One not to be missed.

"More than enough" is a truly soulful production spreading an uplifting feel through SuSu Bobien's unmistakable vocals, delectable jazzy keys and the smooth yet contaminous backing. Jay Benham intensifies the gospel feel on his funk drenched 'Workout Mix' featuring a killer breakdown and grand piano. A couple of weeks ago we introduced you to the latest bomb from Tony Records courtesy of the legendary M&S (Ricky Morrison & Fran Sidoli) who join forces with Shaun Escoffery on the old school inspired "So sweetly", a mesmerizing production featuring outstanding vocals, dramatic strings, lascivious synth melodies, gorgeous flute and a killer jazzy piano over smooth yet infectious rhythms. Now the remixes by none other than the legendary New York born and raised Kenny Carpenter have arrived. His 'Big Apple Mix' is a timeless soulful affair oozing with a glorious classic feel , while his 'Klub Mix' turns the heat up with a relentless backing laced with fiery keys. As we previously said, a fascinating release bringing back memories from the past...

Suges featuring Michael Dave Dizon - I'll be there

A former Pick of the Week in May 2009 when originally released on Iwanai Records, the marvelous "I'll be there" by Suges which features heartfelt vocals by Michael Dave Dizon gets a welcome re-release on Soulstream Records. The release features none less than fourteen versions and comes complete with the timeless original version, Suges own 'Steampunk Mix' and the Guy Robin remix from the 2009 release, and it also includes an eclectic selection of brand new remixes by 83 West, Kojo Akusa, ManyMore, Oral Deep, PM Project, $moove, Gene King and Jazzmattik (and we've almost forgot to mention that you also get the acapella). The bottom line is that this stellar package offers something for everyone, and it certainly is one of the vocal house records of 2011. Nuff said.

TQC - That's love (2011 Remix)

Back in 2004, Slaag Records released the seminal deep house gem "That's love" by TQC, the team of Tyrone Francis, Quentin Harris and Camacho (who sadly passed away in July), with Cassio Ware providing additional background vocals. Now this timeless underground favorite which features spiritual spoken vocals returns in fresh mixes by Tyrone Francis who takes the track to the next level with his thrilling interpretation built around mesmerizing rhythms, wicked piano and lush keys. For the purists, there is also an instrumental that lets you enjoy the groove and melodies in their fully glory. A must for any lover of soulful deep house music.

Album Review: Various "The Best of Disco Demands" (BBE Records CD Promo)

Various - The Best of Disco Demands

Sometime in the early 2000's, the "Disco Demands" series - which has been highly successful ever since - was started by Al Kent whose idea was to put together a compilation of records he really liked. What differentiates this series from the regular Disco compilation (which you can find plenty in music stores for little money) is the fact the songs featured stray from the standards and give you the unique opportunity to experience Disco in its full glory. Over time, Al Kent started to include some of his own edits, making the series even more special. To celebrate the success of the series, BBE Records will release "The Best of Disco Demands - A Collection of Rare 1970s Dance Music compiled by Al Kent" in January 2012, coming your way as two vinyl double packs, 5xCD pack with poster and also as digital download.
