The classic "Cultured girl" from Martino gets the long awaited remix treatment - it definitely has been worth the wait. Martino teams up with Karizma for the 'Kartino Suite Mix', a deep and melodic reworking that sees both of them adding their unique style to the beats and keys, resulting in an absolute beauty that is smooth, resistless and hypnotic at the same time, taking you on a journey into the deepest imaginable grounds of house. Not to forget the sexy vocals courtesy of Syreeta Neal that add that little something extra. The second remix is courtesy of David Harness who comes up with a fantastic interpretation on his own, giving the track a deep and hypnotic reworking featuring a catchy hook and stellar chords.

Kenny Bobien did the cover of this classing Sting song for his album "Blessed - A Gospel Dance Theory" back in 2000, and it has been a favorite with many DJs since then thanks to the spirituality the song is spreading through the incomparable voice of Kenny Bobien. Now Rocco takes on the song, taking things as deep as it gets, with the wonderful chords intensifying the spiritual nature of the track. Its pure magic, taking you on a joyous journey into spiritual house music that you wish would never end.

Rhody & Kaydee "Release the beauty" (Gotta Keep Faith Records CD Promo)
Behind this project are Swedish producer Martin 'Rhody' Eriksson and Nigerian songwriter and singer Kevin David 'Kaydee' Ichekor. Their "Release the beauty" is a wonderful production with a summery vibe that should bring warmth to your heart even in ice cold wintertime thanks to the uplifting vocals, lovely stings and jazzy piano. D3 provides a wonderful retro flavored funky reworking, while Melchyor A comes up with a deep'n'groovy interpretation. OGC give the track deeply rumblin' outfit, followed by Georg Neufeld who serves a sweet chill-house take. Carl Michael comes up with some serious old-school deep house, while Spiritual Blessings relax things on their jazz spiced deep house remix. Be warned, once you listen to it, you'll be addicted!

You may remember K Scope (a project by Eric Kupper) from their timeless classic releases on Tribal America Records - now they return with a massive EP that has timeless written all over it. "Elektrikiss" is a masterpiece of late night house music, being absolutely electrifying with its deeply stormin' bassline groove that is enriched with warm aquatic synths and lovely rhodes that create a hypnotic feeling. "Faith healer" is on a different kind of vibe, being a more minimal track with the techy synths giving it a mesmerizing feel.

Rasmus Faber "Giant leap" (Farplane Records CD Promo)
"Giant leap" by Rasmus Faber is a freebie sent out to those on the Farplane newsletter, and everyone having received it should be grateful. This is a beautiful atmospheric production featuring delightful chords alongside classic strings and Neil Armstrong's voice that altogether give the track an orchestral touch, with the overall vibe being on a soulful laidback tip.

Sequential Soul "Breath deeper" (GoGo Music Records CD Promo)
This one here is quite special as we yet have to identify the producer behind the pseudonym Sequential Soul (no information was supplied with the release). "Breath deeper" is an awesome piece of soulful house music, featuring sweet'n'sexy female vocals and spoken words on top of a deeply thumpin' groove that is enriched with marvelous keys and chords. Ralf GUM and Benny Pecoraio just started a new project titled 4 Ears under which they contribute a vocal and dub remix that take the track as deep as it gets, letting the vocals, keys and relentless groove create a hypnotic vibe you won't be able to resist. Following next is Notenshun's (Werner Niedermeier and Lofty) interpretation that turns the track into a classic soulful vocal house tune.

2 Brothers Of Soul featuring Daren J Bell "I can't help myself" (MoD Records CD Promo)
Mod Records present a huge package here with the latest release by 2 Brothers of Soul (aka Miguel Serra and Ruben Alvarez) titled "I can't help myself". The original is built around a deep yet smooth tribal flavored groove that is enriched with melodic keys and a soulful vocal by Darren J. Bell. MoD intensify the tribal feeling and use wicked chords to give it a more uplifting feeling, while Bad Paryll delivers a resistless piano driven version. The Stereo Mutants come up with a laidback afro-funk flavored tribal groover, while the 2 Brothers of Soul contribute a more powerful dub in a similar vein featuring great keys. A deep house version featuring a catchy piano is served by Markus Homm, followed by Alex Martin & Toni Rox who give it a more old school touch featuring jazzy keys and classic strings. A toolapella is included as well.

Argentinean producer Alfredo Norese teams up with Kaysee, a young British singer on the rise. "Gettin' down" is a feel-good production on a funky edge that features an amazing vocal performance by Kaysee over a fierce yet smooth backing groove that is enriched with a lovely flute, classy horns, wicked guitar and melodic keys that altogether create an uplifting feeling that will bring sunshine to your heart. Simply beautiful.

Patrick Green featuring Nimba Burr "Qua tanka" (Sofitone Records CD Promo)
It took some time for this beauty to finally see the light of the day (Spirit of House did review the rough original back in Mach 2005), but it definitely has been worth the wait. Patrick Green teams up with Liberian diva Nimba Burr for the powerful yet soulful "Qua tanka" that is on an afro-house vibe featuring a lovely orchestration including an outstanding saxophone solo, lovely guitar and wicked organ ride, with Nimba Burr providing a passionate vocal performance. Beside the main 'Grass Roots Mix', there is the 'Organ Ride' which puts the organ center stage and a dub that slightly smoothes things down for a deeper take perfect for late night play. Mr. Cubanix goes even deeper, turning out a wicked reworking featuring catchy synths that make this a winner. Completing the package is very useful acapella version.

There are times when you come across something special that you need to share with others. This is the case with this beautiful album by Bitter:Sweet (who is Kiran Shahani and singer Shana Halligan) titled "The Remix Game" that features reworkings of tracks from their captivating debut album "The Mating Game" (even if you haven't heard of them before, you might have heard of their music as it was featured in TV series and movies such as "Grey's Anatomy", "Nip/Tuck", "Desperate Housewives" or "The Devil Wears Prada"). Mixmasters such as Nicola Conte, Thievery Corporation, AtJazz, Skeewiff - to name just a few - create an eclectic soundtrack ranging from deep house to funky breakbeats that confirms their supremacy as electronic lounge masters they are acclaimed for both by their fans as well as by the critics. |

Both Domu (aka Dominic Stanton) and Pete Simpson need no introduction as they are household names with all the lovers for soulful music. Together they have created a wonderful soul album titled "Look A Little Further" that features ten wonderful songs produced by Domu with the help of Mike Patto (Reel People) and Pete Kuzma (Jill Scott). Domu's tight drum production together with Pete Simpson's incomparable voice result in an seminal and inspiring style of soul that make this album to stand out from the rest. The future of soul is right here. Highly recommended. |
